Am I a Candidate for IPL?

Candidates for IPL must be in good health and realistic in their expectations for treatment. One of the skin rejuvenation experts at Platinum Medical Spa can determine if IPL is the optimal treatment option for you by meeting with you for a consultation.

Your consultation will include an assessment of your skin concerns and a conversation about your medical history and goals for treatment. You will also be able to ask any questions you may have about your treatment options.

IPL is most effective in patients with lighter skin tones. However, with proper pre-and post-treatment protocols, IPL can be used on patients with a wide range of skin types. Patients with certain inflammatory skin conditions may also require pre- and post-treatment skincare protocols or may be better candidates for an alternative treatment approach.

How Does IPL Work?

Though IPL and laser skin treatments both transmit light energy to the skin, there are significant differences between the two procedures. The Alma IPL is not a laser, it uses a series of intense flashes of light to increase collagen formation, break up pigment in the epidermis, remove superficial blood vessels, and improve the overall tone, texture, and pore size of the skin.

The light energy delivered during an IPL treatment consists of multiple wavelengths of light that turn into heat as it is absorbed by your skin’s pigment cells. The treated pigment is destroyed by heat energy without damaging the outer layer of your skin.

FAQs

1. How does it work on vascular and pigmented lesions?

The pulsed light emits wavelengths that are absorbed by vascular and pigmented lesions in multiple levels of the skin. When the light is absorbed by the melanin in the brown spots and the hemoglobin in the veins and red spots, the lesions are gently heated and destroyed.

2. What areas can be treated?

The Prolite II procedure can be performed on the face, neck, decolletage and hands.

4. Is it painful?

You will experience a slight sensation as the pulses of therapeutic light are passed over your skin. The sensation is mild and well tolerated by many in Orange county. However, topical numbing creams are available for anyone who wishes to use them.

5. What kind of results can I expect?

Visible signs of aging and sun damage will be significantly reduced. There is an overall improvement in the skin’s texture, tone, and color.

6. Are there any side effects to IPL Orange County?

The vascular and pigmented lesions will be darker in appearance for 5-7 days. These darker areas will gradually slough off with after your photofacial and return to regular skin care; however, microdermabrasion also works well for this purpose.

7. How many treatments will I need?

A series of four treatments of Orange County IPL is usually required for optimal results in Orange County. Maintenance treatments are recommended every 6-12 months to preserve your results.
